PESHAWAR: On Thursday, three people, including two women and a teenage boy, were killed and three others were hurt in separate roof collapses across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The province is still being hit by heavy monsoon rains.
Rescue workers confirmed that the deaths happened in the districts of Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Tank, where heavy rains damaged the structures of many homes. Authorities had already warned people about the dangers of the ongoing intense monsoon season, and these tragic events show how dangerous it is.
Heavy Rain Causes Fatal Roof Collapses
Families in many places had terrible things happen because of the heavy rain. Rescue 1122 officials gave information about the specific events:
In the Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat, a roof collapse killed two women and a 15-year-old boy. Rescue teams hurried to the scene to get the bodies out of the rubble.
Bannu: In a different event in the Faqirabad Chowk area, a man and a young boy were hurt when the roof of their house fell down. They got first aid right away and were then taken to a hospital nearby.
Tank: A 35-year-old man was hurt badly when the roof of a room in his house fell down because of the rain. He was quickly taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for care.
Rescue Operations and Official Response: Rescue 1122 teams were on high alert and quickly responded to the emergencies. Ikram Wazir, a spokesperson for the rescue service in Bannu, said that teams are ready to deal with more incidents to protect lives and property.
The events happened after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned that heavy rains would fall across KP from July 27 to July 31. The warnings made it clear that weak buildings, especially mud houses, could be damaged by strong winds and heavy rain.
Families Devastated by KP Rain Damage
These roof collapses are the most recent in a long line of deadly events that have happened in Pakistan since late June during this year’s monsoon season. The number of deaths in the country due to rain-related events has already gone over 270, and hundreds more have been hurt and thousands of homes have been damaged. Officials are still telling people, especially those who live in areas that are vulnerable, to be very careful because the heavy rains are expected to continue.
